Tantrarāja-Tantra Chapter XX
Twentieth Chapter
Now, among the sixteen Nityās, listen, O wise one, to the ritual procedure of that [Nityā] who has been spoken of as the fifteenth, known as Jvālāmālinī || 1 ||
Listen sequentially to the nyāsa, dhyāna, the Śaktis, worship, sādhana, yantras, applications, and results || 2 ||
With one, two, four, five, four, and ten syllables, one should perform the aṅga [T.N. nyāsa] using the root syllables, first for the six parts of the body and hands || 3 ||
[Meditating on her who is] resembling blazing fire, radiant with a ruby crown, six-faced, twelve-armed, and adorned with all ornaments || 4 ||
Holding in her lotus-like hands a noose, goad, sword, shield, bow, arrows, mace, trident, fire, boon-bestowing gesture, and fear-allaying gesture || 5 || [T.N. the conch is missing from description]
Surrounded [T.N. on all sides] by Śaktis who are equal to her in form, with a lotus-like face shining with a charming smile, and possessing three eyes || 6 ||
Having meditated thus, one should worship her constantly with those upacāras [T.N. such as flowers, incense, lamp, etc.]. Having drawn a double square equipped with four gates, || 7 ||
Along with branches, an eight-petaled lotus, then an inner eight-angled figure, a six-angled figure [T.N. hexagon], and a triangle in the middle, one should worship Śivā there || 8 ||
One should worship the Icchā, Jñāna, and Kriyā Śaktis situated in the triangle sequentially, Ḍākinī and others in the hexagon, and Ghasmarā and others in the eight-angled figure || 9 ||
Ghasmarā, Viśvakavalā, Lolākṣī, Lolajihvikā, Sarvabhakṣā, Sahasrākṣī, Nihsaṅgā, Saṁhṛtipriyā || 10 ||
One should worship these on the outer eight petals in a clockwise direction: Acintyā, Aprameyā, Pūrṇarūpā, and Durāsadā, Sarvagā, Siddhirūpā, Pāvanā, and Ekarūpiṇī [T.N.: ‘The unthinkable’, ‘Immeasurable’, ‘Complete-formed’, ‘Difficult to approach’, || 11 || ‘All-pervading’, ‘Embodiment of siddhi’, ‘Purifying’, ‘Of single form’]. At the outer gates and corners, one should worship those mentioned previously || 12 ||
Having performed worship in the circle as before, one should worship her according to the stated procedure up to the end of bali and homa; thus, it has been well declared || 13 ||
Eating only pure ritual food (haviṣya), having controlled the senses, one should repeat the vidyā eight hundred thousand times, and perform tarpaṇa and homa with cow’s ghee amounting to one-tenth of that || 14 ||
Thus, having perfected the mantra, one should make the yantras sequentially, outside the worship circle, in an unbroken square, || 15 ||
Having prepared [it], one should write the letters there according to the rules, in the absolute center containing the mantra seed, along with the śakti name, || 16 ||
And the yantra in the three corners, six in the six, eight in the eight, and similarly eight [T.N. on the] outside, and then nine in the outer directions sequentially || 17 ||
Having thus made the yantra with the root syllables, one should accomplish all desires with it through worship, wearing, and installation, O Śive || 18 ||
Among the letters from a to kṣa combined with vowels, four [sets] should be written in the aforesaid yantra with letters from their respective places || 19 ||
The remainder should be written similarly in the middle, accompanied by the target’s letters. Thus, ten yantras are produced in sequence || 20 ||
I shall speak of the attainment of results from their application; listen, O beloved, by which the practitioner verily obtains all desired things from the yantra || 21 ||
The second and other yantras, endowed with Mātṛkā letters, pertain respectively to the nine planets at their respective gates and directions || 22 ||
Being pleased by the worship of the Goddess in them, they do not cause harm. Where Rāhu and Ketu are situated, in the lord of that sign or weekday, || 23 ||
In the intervals between the six- and eight-angled figures, one should write the name of the planet in the second case ending, along with the statement that one pleases them properly || 24 ||
Having written in the first yantra and worshipped according to the stated procedure, on all weekdays, for the attainment of everyone’s pleasure, || 25 ||
For the pacification of evil, one should constantly worship those planets, O beloved. Thus, worshipped in the ten yantras along with Nityā, || 26 ||
Even cruel planets, and those situated in cruel positions, always being pleased, bestow auspicious results like benevolent ones || 27 ||
In all ten yantras, written with cinnabar or red ochre and thus worshipped, having seated a boy or a girl || 28 ||
Who has auspicious limbs, is innocent, bathed, wearing washed garments, and pure, or a boy of that kind, having installed and worshipped [them] with the vidyā, || 29 ||
Touching the head, one should repeat the vidyā a hundred times and worship with red or white flowers, fragrant ones, or others || 30 ||
One should offer guggulu incense until the completion of the rite. Then, when possessed by the Goddess, having carefully worshipped that [person], || 31 ||
Then the master of self should worship her with those aforesaid upacāras and the vidyā; then he should ask, and she will speak of the desired object, || 32 ||
The past, present, future, whatever else is in the mind, and past lives—all of these the well-worshipped one will tell || 33 ||
Then, having worshipped her as before, having dismissed her into one’s own self, one should repeat [the mantra] a thousand times with steady intellect and a fulfilled soul, and wander happily || 34 ||
Likewise, having written the burner in the corners of the hexagon or in the center, having established the mace-bearer there and worshipped according to the declared order, || 35 ||
Having caused possession in the sick person, one should ask the cause and alleviation of the disease; all of that departs upon his command || 36 ||
First, one should heat [the yantra/object] placed in the middle of a woman’s skull at night, repeating the vidyā and remembering the target woman; forthwith she is attracted || 37 ||
Devoid of fear, shame, pride, etc., with trembling limbs, having cast aside other feelings, tormented by love, she approaches || 38 ||
One should heat and similarly repeat over that yantra placed in a man’s skull; kings, princes, or any others whatsoever, || 39 ||
Deprived of discrimination, deluded, having abandoned caste and family traditions, remain under control like servants on the ground until death, verily || 40 ||
Then, in the instruction of all the Nityās, the guru, [placing] that in the center of the respective circle, endowed with the encompassing vidyā repetition, || 41 ||
Visualizing his limbs surrounded by blazing fire, and also drawing the senses along with the mind as the sixth into oneself by the mind as before, || 42 ||
When this is done, in a mere moment he falls unconscious on the ground; then, having raised him and poured arghya water into his mouth, one should speak thus: || 43 ||
This piercing is declared to be threefold, producing immediate conviction, through the divisions of Śākta and Śāmbhava, from the union of the two according to the Yāmala || 44 ||
In the disciple’s Mūlādhāra and other places up to the Brahmarandhra, having said "Remember the seven burning syllables," and looking as before, || 45 ||
The preceptor should perform the Śākta piercing with the perfected vidyā. Listen, O wise one, to the Śāmbhava piercing of wondrous form: || 46 ||
Having placed the disciple silently in the respective circle, entering his body oneself with one’s own self, becoming united, and again into one’s own, || 47 ||
Having returned in one’s own form and visualizing that [disciple’s] self, having performed nyāsa, japa, and worship, one should burn his body with fire || 48 ||
This is said to be the Śāmbhava piercing, declared earlier in the Yāmala. Thus, the threefold piercing has been described, indicative of the attainment of your state || 49 ||
But in the Yāmala this special [truth] is established, heard later from the guru; all other knowledge is transferred by it—there is none equal to that || 50 ||
Having first written with red sandalwood paste, O Śive, on a plate made of metal, a wooden board, a slab of stone, || 51 ||
Or on the earth, very level, pure, and devoid of clods and charcoal, having invoked the Goddess right there, one should worship her accompanied by her Śaktis || 52 ||
For a day, three days, seven days, or even seven [weeks], a month, or a maṇḍala—thus sequentially one obtains what is desired || 53 ||
Subjugation, attraction, paralyzing, restraint, desired gain, and everything else desired one obtains through wonderful worship || 54 ||
Then one conquers all the aforementioned diseases and all others, and accomplishes [everything] with just the first yantra, diligently, O Śive || 55 ||
Making the second on cinnabar when the sun has reached its zenith among those mentioned, one should worship at the specified time and obtain the stated results || 56 ||
Having written on a silver plate, daily repeating while touching [it] a thousand times the vidyā of that Nitya, with water perfumed by it, || 57 ||
One should perform bathing, drinking, and cooking-related [uses] for the stated days thence; from the three dreadful types of diabetes, severe dysuria, || 58 ||
Stone, urinary disorders, and other diseases, [one becomes] freed and happy, and lives for a very long time on earth, disease-free and of healthy mind || 59 ||
Having made the third with red ochre at the base of a tree born under an enemy’s birth-star, having dug the ground there, one should always kindle fire in it || 60 ||
Within those stated days, the enemy [is afflicted] by burning fever, diseases, etc.; if one does not take that out and throw it into water, he will perish || 61 ||
The fourth, written with gorocana paste and properly worshipped as stated, surely attains victory in all the mentioned [matters] || 62 ||
In debates, both kinds of gambling, planets, and everywhere else, all become victors always through the majesty of this || 63 ||
Making the fifth with saffron, through its worship for [those] days, men, elephants, horses, and women come under control || 64 ||
The sixth, written with turmeric on a cloth along with the name, one should place somewhere at the planet’s exaltation, well-bound in a brick cavity || 65 ||
Verily it paralyzes the enemy’s tongue, movement, remaining [faculties], divine [manifestations], kings’ undertakings, desire for debate, and all other undesirable things || 66 ||
The seventh, one should write with sandal paste mixed with camphor, and constantly worship her there during the sandhyās in one’s own house || 67 ||
Within those days, his fortune becomes surpassing all worlds, O great Goddess; wondrous are the powers of the yantras || 68 ||
The eighth, one should write with powdered agaru on a wooden board or a seat, [worshipping] that Goddess there on a day when Jupiter has reached its exaltation || 69 ||
At that time of exaltation, one should worship with fragrant flowers, and thus obtains varied garments and ornaments || 70 ||
The ninth, having written with musk and worshipped her there, anointed with it, wherever one goes into an assembly of people, || 71 ||
All regard him like a guru and become submissive; if women, they fulfil his desires as long as he lives, through the power of this || 72 ||
One should write the tenth with all the aforesaid substances respectively; whatever of all this has been stated, one should accomplish this task successfully || 73 ||
Having written on those ten with the stated substances, having established a pot according to the rules and recited when a planet is fierce, || 74 ||
One should consecrate [someone] with [water from it]; the result belonging to the defect-position of that planet does not occur, and thus one becomes subjugated by the yantras entirely || 75 ||
Likewise, at its exaltation, its worship with homa, mantra, ghee, and pāyasa, offering, bowing, and worship should be given, and one attains the state of Śiva || 76 ||
In the afflictions caused by those respective planets, those planets, through their power, quickly bestow the results of the eleventh house even from daily worship || 77 ||
On gold or silver, having written any one of those yantras, O Śive, having worshipped it, one should well-worship and give it to a knower of the vidyā || 78 ||
[Weighing] sixteen, twelve, nine, six, or three Niṣkas, for the daily worshipper, or to worship one of the Nityās, || 79 ||
Having worshipped this with sandal paste, etc., bowing to the planetary form, sitting facing the west, to him according to the stated procedure || 80 ||
By drinking water infused with the repeated vidyā, the digestive fire in the belly increases, and surely also by touching the belly and repeating [the mantra] after eating || 81 ||
When the sun is in Aries and other signs, in all twelve months, in the ten aforesaid yantras, each for three days, || 82 ||
One should worship the Goddess for a year; [thus], prosperous with wealth, grain, house, etc., one lives long, disease-free, and of cheerful mind on earth || 83 ||
In whatever sign a planet resides—one, two, or many—on those days, at their exaltations and times, through their worship, || 84 ||
Those respective planets, being highly pleased, protect him constantly, as well as through tarpaṇa, homa, japa, charity, etc. || 85 ||
In all nine yantras, easily, having written the respective agitation inside the nine planets, one should worship for the destruction of enemies || 86 ||
Having written the stated ten thousand enemies’ names during an eclipse of the sun and moon on level ground, one obtains victory daily || 87 ||
Each of the vidyā letters and medicines amounting to one karṣa, one should cook in a new pot with pañcagavya measuring a khāri, || 88 ||
In fire consecrated with the vidyā; then, having offered [into fire] with ghee and the vidyā what arises from its belly, taking those ashes right there, || 89 ||
Having produced the ten yantras and worshipped the Goddess there, then collecting those ashes, one should keep them and worship daily || 90 ||
Those ashes act as all-protection and accomplish all things; diseases, thieves, planets, evils, and distresses will not be in that house || 91 ||
Constant wearing on the body, anointing with Śrīkaṇṭha and others, eating, all acts, etc., destroy sins and afflictions || 92 ||
To the ten fire letters, combined separately with seven consonants, one should attach the three vowels sequentially; thereby they become twenty-one || 93 || [T.N. The Manorama explains it is about the 7 consonants inside the 10 fire letters, those are combined with 3 vowels; the reading shall be:
"In the ten fire letters, with the seven consonants separately, one should join the three vowels in order; thereby they become twenty-one."]
Having drawn two triangles through outer and inner combination, and having made a six-angled figure in the middle of the inner circle, || 94 ||
One should write the first [name] in the middle, and six in the six corners sequentially, writing starting from the front in a clockwise direction, O Pārvatī || 95 ||
Having written fourteen inside the triangle sequentially, in the remainder one should write the target’s letter in the front across all fifteen, || 96 ||
Through the sequential placing of others in the middle, there become twenty-one yantras; thus, the digestive fire in the belly is activated || 97 ||
Having written these on a triangular copper plate, touching [it] one should repeat the vidyā a hundred thousand times, enclosed by its letters, || 98 ||
Daily placed in a pot of water, worshipped and repeated over, by that water through cooking food and sprinkling, it verily happens || 99 ||
The blazing of the gastric fire, through the destruction of sins of previous births, arises, O Supreme Goddess, from the majesty of the Nityās || 100 ||
Thus, the pervasiveness consisting of the auditory principle has been well declared; through the fulfillment of this, that truth is realized within one’s own mind || 101 ||
Thus ends the twentieth chapter in the glorious Kādimata, within the Ṣoḍaśanityātantra.
